GINOSKO CONSULTINGPO BOX 96 17875 CHEROKEE STREETHARPSTER, OHIO 43323 Mr. Ken Erickson Gorton Seafoods P.O. Box 309 Millville, N.J. 03332 April 20, 1995 Dear Mr. Erickson: Please find below the results of analyses we performed on the two wastewater samples we received on April 4. These were samples of wastewater lagoon and were identified as (1) lagoon sample and (2) lagoon pump. These samples were analyzed in order to assure ourselves that appropriate concentrations of nutrients were present for the growth of large numbers of micro-organisms and to be certain that inhibitory quantities of toxic materials were not present. Lagoon Lagoon PumppH 6.42 S.U. 6.98 S.U. Phosphorus as P 35.43 mg/l 41.95 mg/l COD 16400 mg/l 1641 mg/l Suspended Solids 1080 mg/l 1888 mg/l BOD 11210 mg/l 1412 mg/l Ammonia as N 70.38 mg/l 10.40 mg/l Chlorides 5098 mg/l 2950 mg/l
No inhibitory concentrations of metal ions were found. Following this initial analysis, an aliquot of each sample was inoculated with AquaClean at concentrations of 5 parts per million (PPM) and at 10 PPM. These samples were then monitored over a seven-day period through April 16th. The following is a summary of the results of the 5 PPM concentration which resulted in the best overall performance. All data are in mg/lLagoon Sample Lagoon Sample Treated at 5 PPM Untreated COD SS COD SS 4/9/95 16400 1080 16400 1080 4/12/95 3796 550 8850 892 4/16/95 211 37 2742 88 % Reduction 98.7% 96.6% 82.2% 91.2% Lagoon Pump Lagoon Pump Treated at 5 PPM Untreated COD SS COD SS 4/9/95 1641 1188 1641 1888 4/12/95 871 426 1670 816 4/16/95 105 132 1156 513 % Reduction 93.6% 88.9% 29.6% 72.8% As you can see, a very good reduction of COD and suspended solids concentration has been demonstrated over the test period for the inoculation level. The reduction of COD over the seven days ranged from 69 to 98 percent, depending upon sample type and dose rates of AquaClean. The suspended solids reduction ranged from 72 to 97 percent because of the same variable. By observing the increased reductions between the untreated and the treated samples you see clearly the benefits possible by using AquaClean. The COD reductions were 17% and 64% greater in the treated sample at 5 PPM. We feel quite confident that the addition of AquaClean to your wastewater treatment system will affect similar removal rates of these parameters. Initially there was a trace amount of hydrogen sulfide (1.24 mg/l) present in the Lagoon Pump sample but this was below detectable limits after the third day. In view of the reduction rates achieved over the test period, we recommend the application of 30 gallons of AquaClean for the one time seeding of the lagoon. After this initial dose, a maintenance dosage addition of 1 gallon every week should be continued in order to assure appropriate waste treatment, and maintain proper populations of AquaClean organisms. In cold weather operation this could be dropped to 1 gallon every other week. With adherence to the above recommendations we can assure you of the same reductions as our tests have produced, further, no odors due to H2S would occur. After the initial application of AquaClean your system will operate with improved efficiencies and cost effectiveness for years. Laboratory analysis to monitor the progress of the treatment is imperative at least for the first month and should include COD, suspended solids, BOD, and respiration rate. So, if we can be of any further service to you please feel free to call at any time. Sincerely, William P. Pfeiffer, Ch.D Director of Operations |
