Odor Control and Manure Management Swine Farm Success in the Dominican
The Agrotel Company owns and operates a wholesale Agricultural Supply Company, as well as a Swine Farm in Moca, Dominican Republic. As noted below, the farm is a well designed and maintained facility. In spite of their excellent management, the odors from the waste water lagoon were causing complaints from the surrounding neighbors. In fact the City Authorities had threatened to close the farm if the problem could not be solved.
The Farm has 450 to 500 Sows and some 10,000 Piglets at any one time. The wash-down and manure waste water from the barns is collected; and then the solids are separated for feed and fertilizer, with the waste water flowing into a lagoon. There is no surface exit for runoff, but water does percolate and emit odors downstream.
Simple ACF-32 Treatment Plan… Successfully Saves the Farm from Closure Juan Carles Inea, the farm’s operational manager, stated that nothing had worked. Then with only 1 Gallon of ACF-32 a week, they were able to eliminate the odors in the lagoon. In addition, the sludge in the lagoon began to subside to the point where they now considering using the water for crop irrigation in the surrounding fields.
After treatment, Juan was quoted…”AquaClean saved my Farm from being shut down”
Based on these successful results, they are now using AquaClean to improve their composting of carcasses. ACF-32 will speed up the process, reduce flies, while producing a value-added liquid fertilizer from the compost runoff.
The Compost System is a series of concrete silos where the carcasses are allowed to degrade in water. ACF-32 is applied, 1 liter every other week, to the water in the silos, and the runoff water…called BioSol…is used to fertile the fields surrounding the lagoon.
