"Protocol for using AquaClean ACF-32 as an Infection Control Agent for
Dental Offices and Clinics"
Background:
Many health care providers are becoming more aware of the potential to have patients contract infections during the course of medical procedures. As a result, many doctors and dentists have taken steps to identify and eliminate potential sources of these types of infections.
At a dental station a potential breeding ground for these types of infections is the evac system which is designed to carry away materials expulsed by patients during treatment. This material can contain blood, mucus, saliva and other sources of pathogenic bacteria which can breed in the line and sump of the evac system.
Since there is a high flow of air through the system the mucoprotein and other materials that can coat the walls of the tubing can thicken and form a thick coating on the walls of the tubing, eventually impeding flow and resulting in occasional backups.
These same materials can also build up in the sump requiring frequent maintenance which is an unpleasant job at best.
Solution:
AquaClean has developed a biological product, ACF-32 that will, when used as part of a regular maintenance program, keep the evac tubes and sump clear and clean of all deposits which may provide a breeding ground for the bacteria as well as maintenance headaches for office personnel. The product will also colonize the line with beneficial, non-pathogenic bacteria and through “competitive exclusion” significantly reduce or eliminate pathogens from the system.
Application:
Simply pour ACF-32 down each collection sink at close of business. Treatment should be every other week, with the best day to be the last working day of the week to allow for longest retention time. Dosage would normally be four ounces in each sink, but may be adjusted based on performance as noted in the clean out / maintenance process.
