TOXIClTY TESTS
The U.S. Dept. of Labor
Division, Occupational Safety
and Health Administration Dept.
(MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEET),
indicates that there are no
toxic or hazardous ingredients
in AquaClean ACF 32. It also
indicates that there are no
pigments, catalysts, solvents,
base metals, alloys, metallic
coatings, filler metal,
coatings, core flux, or any
other such material in the
product. The basic formulation
is composed of only organic
compounds and does not require
constant toxicity testing
because it is not
applicable.
IN SUMMARY THE MATERIAL IS
NON-TOXIC. |

Subject: AquaClean ACF 32 Toxicity Testing (Acute)
Laboratory ID: 3072
PROJECT SUMMARY
GENERAL
ACF 32 was tested for toxicity evaluation as described in Methods for Measuring the Acute Toxicity of Effluents and Receiving Waters to Freshwater and Marine Organisms (EPA/600/4-90/027). An acute 24-hour test was performed in duplicate at 5 dilutions using 11-day old fathead minnows, Pimephales promelas, as the test organism.
ACF 32 was tested at 1, 5, 10, 20, and 100 ppm with a synthetical moderately hard dilution water as a control.

1.0 SAMPLE RECEIPT AND PREPARATION
A product sample was delivered to the laboratory by BBC Laboratory personnel on 22 March 1993. Chain of custody procedures were followed for transfer of sample and the completed custody form is presented on the following page. Sample was held at 4ºC during laboratory storage.
2.0 DILUTION WATER
Synthetic freshwater was prepared according to the appropriate formulation presented in the table below. Reagent grade salts were added to de-ionized water to provide the proper chemical composition.
Synthetic moderately hard water was used for the Pimephales promelas quality control and product bioassay tests.

3.0 TEST PROCEDURES
The product sample and dilution water were equilibriated at test temperature prior to preparation of test concentrations and introduction of test organisms. The synthetic moderately hard dilution water was used as the control. Test solution concentrations of 1, 5, 10, 20, and 100 ppm, as specified by the client, were prepared volumetrically and were used in the acute assay.
3.1 TOXICITY TEST METHODS
Test methods used for the toxicity evaluations are those described in Methods for Measuring the Acute Toxicity of Effluents and Receiving Waters to Freshwater and Marine Organisms(EPA/600/4- 90/027, USEPA ENSL, Cincinnati, Ohio, September 1991) | |

3.6 CHEMICAL AND PHYSICAL MEASUREMENTS
Unless otherwise indicated, chemical and physical measurements were conducted in accordance with the procedures specified in Methods for Chemical Analysis of Water and Wastes (EPA-600/4-79-020, USEPA EMSL, Cincinnati, Ohio, March 1983). Analytical method references are listed below.

4.0 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A copper sulfate reference toxicant provided by USEPA was used for quality control assessments. The stock solution was diluted volumetrically with synthetic freshwater to provide test solution concentrations bracketing the anticipated effect concentrations.

CONCLUSIONS
The recommended usage concentration for this product is 5 ppm. At this level there is no effect on the survival of the test organisms as described. At 2- times or 4- times the recommended usage concentration of ACF 32 there is no effect on the survival of the test organisms. At 20- times the recommended usage concentration there was only a 5% mortality of the test organisms. There were no toxicity testing of dosages between 4 and 20- times the recommended dosage in this 5 dilution series.
