Humboldt Creamery

AquaClean bio-augmentation resulted in marked improvement in COD and H2S effluent. The reduction in COD was 95%, while Hydrogen Sulfide levels were reduced by 100%, which effectively controlled the odor problem.

Dear Mr. Christensen:

Below are the results of analyses performed on the sample received by us on June 14, 1986. This sample was taken from your lagoon and consisted of lagoon wastewater. The sample was analyzed in order to assure ourselves that appropriate concentrations of nutrients were present for the growth of large numbers of micro-organisms and to be certain that inhibitory quantities of toxic materials were not present. Following are the results of the analysis.

Laboratory No. M86-27-6
pH 6.64S.U.
Alkalinity 360mg/l
TNFLT(SS) 340mg/l
Ammonia as N 2.42mg/l
T Phosphorus 7.10mg/l
BOD 425mg/l
COD 942mg/l
Chlorides 92.80mg/l
Sulfide(H2S) 2.40mg/l
Oil Grease 128mg/l

Following this initial analysis, an aliquot of the sample was inoculated with AquaClean at concentrations of 20 milligrams per liter (PPM). These samples were then placed into the bio-oxidation system together with an untreated portion of the sample, which serves as a control. Following is a summary of the results of that monitoring.
All data is represented in mg/l

As you can see, the addition of the bio-augmentation material AquaClean has resulted in marked improvement in COD and H2S concentrations. The reduction in COD was 95% for the 20 PPM treatment. The Hydrogen Sulfide levels were reduced by 100%, which would indicate that the use of AquaClean will control the odor problem due to hydrogen sulfide. We recommend the use of AquaClean in the lagoon in a one stage seeding application as follows: As soon as possible add 20 PPM of AquaClean. Follow this with a maintenance dose of 2 gallons per week. If we can be of any further service, please feel free to call at any time.

Sincerely ,

William F. Pfeiffer Ch.D.
Director of Operations
