AQUACLEAN / ACF-32
INDUSTRIAL WASTEWATER TREATMENT
An industrial waste treatment system in Texas used AQUACLEAN/ ACF-32 in their plant to reduce BOD, Ammonia, TOC, and TSS. This industrial site was processing water-soluble polymers that were proving to be difficult for their activated sludge system. In the existing system design, the influent stream is first treated by a pH adjustment to a level of 12 or higher, and then is later anaerobically treated prior to the final activated sludge treatment process.
The system was treated with AQUACLEAN/ ACF-32 at 5 PPM and then provided maintenance dosage at 1 PPM level thereafter. Within two weeks the system demonstrated visible signs of improvement. The post treatment analysis of the effluent revealed the following percentage improvements:

The above reductions are continuing to improve as the bacteria of AQUACLEAN become acclimated to the system, again showing the cost effectiveness of the use of bio-augmentation.
AQUACLEAN/ ACF-32 controlled the concentration of influent phenolic materials which was causing total loss of bacterial populations in a secondary treatment plant. The daily influent concentrations of phenol were often in excess of 30 mg/l in the effluent.
Through the use of AQUACLEANand some diversion of flow, control was achieved even when influent concentration of phenol was over 100.0 mg/l. In addition, the anaerobic digester was often disrupted because of toxic conditions. The use of AQUACLEANdirectly into the primary digester brings the digester back on line much faster than it would otherwise recover. The use of AQUACLEAN in anaerobic digestion of municipal sludge has long been a beneficial practice. Solids balancing of an anaerobic digester is the primary method of affecting control over these systems. Often this balance is difficult to maintain, especially in recent years, due mainly to the aging of undersized systems and heavily increased solids loading.
The increased use of highly complex industrial waste material is adding to the problem of proper digester operation. Application of AQUACLEANto these systems has demonstrated its ability to quickly restore proper operating parameters, showing increased gas production, volatile solids destruction and overall solids removal efficiency. Heavy metal loading into these anaerobic digesters is resulting in extraordinarily toxic conditions. Although AQUACLEANis sensitive to metal toxicity, the effective use of this bacterial augmentation can overcome these toxic conditions, especially if the heavy metal toxicity is cyclic.
The excellent efficiency of AQUACLEAN’s bacteria to oxidize hydrocarbons makes it particularly effective against complex organic compounds, which end up in the digester. AQUACLEAN’s affinity for hydrogen sulfide oxidation makes it beneficial in controlling odor problems always associated with malfunctioning anaerobic digester systems.
